JACK - A - LANTERN COMPOTE 
1 perfect small pumpkin
2 c. tart apples, peeled and sliced
1 c. raisins
1 c. pecans, chopped
1/3 c. water
1/3 c. sugar
1 tsp. lemon juice
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Wash and dry pumpkin. Cut off top, leaving a generous slice. Clean out and place on top a pie pan. Combine all other ingredients in a sauce pan and bring just to a boil. Pour apple mixture into pumpkin and cover with lid. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 60 minutes, until apples are tender. Serve as a meat accompaniment, scooping out some pumpkin with each spoon full of fruit. Delicious hot or cold. Really a good buffet dinner deal.
