FRIED OKRA 
1 qt. okra
2 c. milk
2 c. cornmeal
2 tsp. black pepper
2 tsp. salt
2 c. cooking oil

Wash and slice okra 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Place okra in a deep bowl and cover with milk. Let stand 30 minutes; drain. Pour cornmeal and pepper in a bag; add okra and shake until thoroughly coated.

Heat oil to 380 degrees in a large frying pan; add okra to make a single layer. Turn only once during frying; do not stir. Remove okra when light brown; place on paper towels to drain. Sprinkle with salt. Place okra in a 13 x 9 1/2 x 2 inch baking dish, and bake at 200 degrees for about 30 minutes. Yields 6-8 servings.
