RAISIN DATE CRUMB BARS 
CRUST:

1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 3/4 c. oatmeal
1 3/4 c. flour
1 c. melted shortening

FILLING:

1 lb. raisins and or dates
1 c. sugar
1/2 - 3/4 c. water
2 tbsp. flour
3/4 c. chopped nuts

Combine crust ingredients. Pat half of crumbs in cake pan. Top with filling ingredients which have been cooked until thickened. Then add the other half of crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
