PEARL'S FLOAT 
1 c. granulated sugar
1 1/2 c. water
12 marshmallows, quartered
2 tbsp. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
3 tbsp. cocoa powder
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Boil water and 1 cup sugar hard for 5 minutes in saucepan, then pour this into a casserole. Put marshmallows on top of sauce. Set this aside. Cream shortening and sugar. Add vanilla. Sift flour with salt, baking powder and cocoa. Alternately add flour mix and milk to shortening mixture. Then add nuts and stir. Drop batter by spoon over syrup and marshmallows. Cover and bake 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Lay a few marshmallows on top. Serve with whipped cream.
