WALDORF ASTORIA CAKE 
1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 oz. red food coloring

Mix until fluffy. 1 tsp. salt 2 c. cake flour

Sift together. Add flour mixture into Crisco mixture. Add 1 cup buttermilk alternately with above mixture. Fold in 1 teaspoon baking soda mixed in 1 tablespoon vinegar. DO NOT BEAT. Fold vinegar-soda mixture into cake mixture. Pour into 2 (8-inch) round cake pans (grease and flour bottoms). Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

WALDORF ASTORIA CAKE ICING:

Mix together in pan: 1/2 cup flour and 1 cup milk. Cook this over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick. Add pinch of salt and cool. Beat at high speed until fluffy: 1 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup Crisco and 1 stick butter. Add milk mixture to it and add 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat at high speed until fluffy.
