WALDORF ASTORIA CHOCOLATE NUT
CAKE
 
1/2 c. butter
4 sqs. bitter chocolate or 1/2 c. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts
2 c. sugar
2 c. plain flour, sifted
2 tsp. baking powder
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. milk
2 tsp. vanilla

Hand Method: Same as any cake. Cream butter, add sugar, beat egg yolks, add to butter and sugar mixture. Sift flour, cocoa, salt, and baking powder together. Add alternately to mix with milk to which flavoring has been added. Beat until smooth. Add nut meats, fold in whites of eggs which have been beaten stiff. Grease and flour 2 pans (9-inch size), pour even mixture in each. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes in a preheated oven. Let cool in pans; remove.

FROSTING:

1 lb. powdered sugar
1/4 lb. butter
1/4 c. cocoa (dissolved in sm. amount of water)
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts

Beat eggs; add lemon juice; add other liquid ingredients. Then add sugar gradually, beating all the while; add nuts. If frosting is too thick, hot strong coffee, or a bit of cream may be added to make frosting thin enough to spread.

My sister in law told me about this recipe. I looked here and found this one. Since it called for nuts, she said she used black walnuts, I got those and put those in it. The cake makes the icing!!! I really don't care much for chocolate but I was intrigued with the name and wanted to try it. You won't go wrong with this recipe, and like I said I used Black Walnuts!!!
