BAVARIAN APPLE-WALNUT TORTE
9 inch springform pan - all baking at 400 degrees.

CRUST:

1/2 c. butter
1 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour (I use Wondra - no sift!)
1/3 c. granulated sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla

Cook 5 minutes and cool 5 minutes. Mix until blended at medium speed. Put into bottom and sides of pan.

FILLING:

1 pkg. (8 oz.) Philadelphia cream cheese
2 eggs
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Mix well and pour into partially cooled crust.

TOPPING:

4 c. peeled and sliced apples (Golden Delicious - 4 med. size) (Golden Delicious best results; macs do fine.)
1/3 c. granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. chopped walnuts
1/3 c. apricot preserves melted in 2 tbsp. water

Toss apple slices in sugar and cinnamon; then place on cream cheese filling. (You can just dump them in and press down into filling.) Top with nuts. Bake 400 degree oven 60-65 minutes or until apples are done. Cool. Brush with apricot for high glaze.

This has replaced traditional apple pie with my young adults. Much quicker and easier than regular apple pie. Crust can be made a day or two ahead. Tastes better day after it is completed.
