TOFFEE CRUNCH | |
1 column (about 42) saltines 2 stick butter (1/2 lb.) 1 c. light brown sugar 1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips Arrange saltines in single layer on bottom of foil lined 17"x14" baking sheet. Must have sides, like jelly roll pan. In large saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar and bring to a boil. Boil gently for 3 minutes. Immediately pour over saltines, making sure all are covered. Bake at 400 degrees for 7 minutes, watching carefully to be sure mixture doesn't burn. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over evenly. Allow to stand for a few minutes to melt, then with spatula spread around smoothly. Finely chopped nuts may be sprinkled over top. Set aside to harden, takes a long while to cool. Break into pieces and store in covered containers. |
