BAKED ONIONS WITH CHEESE 
12 med. onions
1/2 c. beef bouillon or consomme
Salt and freshly ground pepper
Grated Cheddar or Gruyere cheese

Butter a 9 or 10 inch casserole well. Place the onions in it, add the broth, and sprinkle lightly with salt and a few grinds from the pepper mill. Cover, and bake in a 325 degree oven for 1 hour, or until the onions are just tender. Replenish the liquid, if need be, during the baking period. Add enough grated cheese to almost cover the onions completely, and run under the broiling unit or return to the oven for a few moments to melt the cheese thoroughly. Serve from the casserole.
