APPLE DUMPLINGS WITH CARAMEL
SAUCE
 
Dumplings:

3 tsp. baking powder
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
4 tsp. vegetable shortening
1/2 to 1 cup milk

Mix dry ingredients; cut in shortening. Slowly add milk and mix until dough is formed.

Filling:

8 to 12 apples peeled and sliced (I use 2 halves, not slices)

Thinly roll out dough 1/8-inch; cut in 5-inch squares. Fill with apples; put in 9x13-inch pan.

Caramel Syrup:

1 cup sugar
1 cup water
5 tsp. butter
1 tsp. cinnamon

Put syrup ingredients in saucepan; boil 3 minutes. Pour over dumplings.

Bake in preheated 450°F oven for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350°F for 25 minutes.
