BUTTERMILK HUSH PUPPIES | |
1 c. self-rising cornmeal 1 c. self-rising flour 1/4 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 c. chopped onion 1 egg, beaten 3/4 c. buttermilk Vegetable oil Combine first 7 ingredients; mix well. Carefully drop batter by level tablespoonsful into deep hot oil (370 degrees); cook only a few at a time, turning once. Fry 3 minutes or until Hush Puppies are golden brown. Drain well on paper towels. Yield: about 2 1/2 dozen. |
