OLD FASHIONED HUSH PUPPIES 
1 c. cornmeal
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. minced onion
1 egg, beaten
1 c. milk
1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 green onion with top. chopped

Combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, garlic salt and salt in a mixing bowl. Add remaining ingredients; stir well. Let batter stand 5 minutes. Carefully drop batter by level tablespoonfuls into deep hot oil, 370 degrees; cook only a few at a time, turning once. Fry 3 to 5 minutes or until hush puppies are golden brown. Drain well on paper towels. Yield: about 2 dozen.
