2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
3 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
4 tsp. lemon extract
2 tsp. nutmeg
5 c. sifted flour
1 c. sour milk or buttermilk

Sift flour, baking soda, and salt together. Mix sugar, shortening, eggs, and flavorings until creamy and light. Add sour milk and dry ingredients alternately. Chill dough for at least 3 hours. Roll chilled dough on floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters or a glass to cut out cookies. Place on greased cookie sheets and bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
