ENGLISH TOFFEE | |
1 c. sugar 1 c. butter, do not substitute 3 tbsp. water 1 tsp. vanilla 1 (4 1/2 oz.) milk chocolate bar or 1/2 c. milk chocolate chips 1/2 c. finely chopped pecans or walnuts 9 x 9 x 1 1/2 inch buttered pan Combine sugar, butter and water in heavy saucepan. Cook to 300 or hard crack stage, stirring constantly (will scorch easy). Add vanilla, pour into buttered 9 x 9 x 1 1/2 inch pan. Cool 5 minutes. Break chocolate bar in pieces and sprinkle over top. Spread as it melts. Sprinkle on nuts pressing them lightly into chocolate and cool. Break into pieces. Makes 24 to 36 pieces. Do not freeze. |
