SHEET OATS COOKIES 
2 c. shortening (Crisco)
1 c. white sugar
1 c. light brown sugar
4 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. flour
2 c. uncooked oats (Old Fashion)
4 tbsp. pure vanilla

Cream shortening, add sugar and continue creaming. Add eggs, salt, vanilla, flour and oats. Mix well. Pour into two greased and floured cookie sheets 10 1/2 x 15 1/2. Spread evenly and bake 350°F about 20 minutes or until golden brown on top.

Caramel Icing:

1/4 lb. butter
1 lb. light brown sugar
1 c. fresh milk

Combine ingredients and cook, stirring until it starts to boil; then stirring often and test for soft ball stage in cold water. Cool until warm; beat until it starts to hold shape. Spread on cookies and cut into squares.
