MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY TAMALE
PIE
 
1 lb. ground beef
1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 (14 oz.) can Mexican stewed tomatoes, drained
1 (16 oz.) can refried beans with green chilies
1 (16 oz.) jar Picante sauce
1 (8 3/4 oz.) can corn, drained
1/2 c. sliced green onions
1 (8 1/2 oz.) pkg. corn bread mix
1 c. shredded cheese

In a large skillet brown meat and garlic powder; drain. In a large bowl, mix together meat with remaining ingredients except for corn bread mix and cheese. Spoon meat mixture evenly into a 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking dish. Prepare corn bread mix as directed on box and fold in cheese. Top meat mixture with corn bread and cheese mixture.

Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until corn bread is done. Let stand 10-15 minutes before serving. Ground turkey may be used in place of beef for those on low cholesterol diets. Serves 6-8.
