ITALIAN CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
4 eggs
3 1/2 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. orange juice
1 drop lemon
1 bottle anise extract (1 fl. oz.)
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. chopped cherries

Mix first four ingredients, then add dry ingredients, then liquids. Mix well. Fold in nuts and cherries. Put in greased and floured tube pan. When baked, about 20 minutes or until slightly cool remove from pan.

If batter seems heavy add a little extra milk. Drizzle icing around top of cake and down sides. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes.
