APPLE JACKS 
FILLING:

12-14 apples
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
3 heaping tbsp. flour
2 tbsp. lemon juice, sprinkled on
1/4 c. butter

PASTRY:

1 c. shortening
3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 egg yolk
1/2 c. milk

Mix pastry together, divide into 2 balls, and roll out crust on jelly roll pan. Mix all dry ingredients and mix over apples. Put apple filling on crust and cover with top crust and brush top crust with 1 beaten egg white with a little granulated sugar and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.

Glaze with 1 cup 4X sugar mixed with 4 teaspoons milk. Drizzle over pie. Serve warm or cold.
