1 box seeded raisins
2 c. water
2 c. sugar
1 c. Spry or Crisco
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. salt

Mix together in a saucepan. Boil for 5 minutes. Turn fire out; add 2 teaspoons baking soda and let cool.

Then add 4 cups flour and some chopped nuts. Bake in a deep tubular cake tin in a slow oven for approximately 1 hour. Place whole nuts and cherries on top about 5 minutes before cake is finished.
