1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
3 1/2 c. flour
1 1/4 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. orange rind
1 pkg. dates

Bake 1 1/2 hours at 350 degrees.

TOPPING:

1 c. orange juice
2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. orange rind

Bring to boil. Pour over hot cake and let set overnight.
