CHOCOLATE CHERRY COOKIES 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. unsweetened cocoa (not instant)
1 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 jar maraschino cherries

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg, vanilla and cocoa. Mix flour, salt, baking powder and soda; add to butter mixture. Place in 1 inch balls on ungreased cookie sheet. Place cherry in each ball. Frost with a drop of frosting and bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Makes about 2 1/2 pounds.

FROSTING:

6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1/2 c. Eagle Brand milk
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 to 2 tsp. cherry juice

Melt chocolate and milk in double boiler. Add salt and juice while hot. Use immediately.
