1 pkg. (18 oz.) cake mix
1/2 c. melted butter
1 egg, slightly beaten

CREAM FILLING:

2 c. powdered sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Dash of salt
1 egg white
Food coloring, optional

Mix cookie ingredients. Shape dough into firm 1 inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 9-13 minutes. Cool 1 minute. Remove from sheet and cool completely.

Cream Filling: Mix ingredients until blended then beat 2-3 minutes for extra creamy texture. Spread generously on 1/2 of the cookies. Top with remaining 1/2 to make sandwiches.
