VEGETABLE CLAM CHOWDER 
4 c. water
4 slices bacon cut into sm. pieces
3 carrots chopped fine
1 sm. green pepper chopped fine
1/8 tsp. monosodium glutamate
1 tsp. salt (more or less)
1 c. onions chopped fine
6 med.-size potatoes cut into 1 inch cubes
1 qt. milk
1 (7 oz.) can minced clams
1/4 tsp. pepper

Heat water to boiling point. While water is heating, partially saute diced bacon until light brown; then add bacon and drippings to boiling water along with carrots, green pepper, onions and potatoes. Cover saucepan and simmer 45 minutes. Stir in milk, clams with clam liquid, salt, pepper, and monosodium glutamate. Serve piping hot. Serves 6 generously.
