SPICE NUT CAKE 
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 c. granulated sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. ground cloves
3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
2/3 c. shortening
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
3 eggs
1/2 c. finely chopped walnuts

Sift together first 7 ingredients. Add shortening and brown sugar and buttermilk. Mix until flour is moistened. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed on electric mixer. Add eggs, beat 2 minutes more. Stir in nuts.

Bake in 2 greased and lightly floured 9 x 13 inch round pans in moderate oven at 350°F for 30-35 minutes or until done.

Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans. Cool completely. Frost with Cream Cheese Frosting.
