CRUELLER OR DROP DOUGHNUTS 
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 c. milk
1/2 tsp. grated nutmeg (optional)

Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Cream shortening and sugar until light. Add eggs; add dry ingredients, alternating with milk. Stir just to moisten dry ingredients; turn onto lightly floured boards. Knead lightly, roll out about 1/2 inch thick. Cut with doughnut cutter. Fry in deep hot fat (375 degrees about 5 minutes. Turn each crueller as it rises to top. Drain thoroughly; roll in powdered sugar.

Also can be dropped by spoonful into hot fat. Cook about 3 minutes; drain. Roll in powdered sugar.
