WHOLE WHEAT BISCUITS 
1 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. whole wheat flour
2 tbsp. sugar
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
2 tbsp. plus 1 1/2 tsp. Crisco Shortening
1/2 c. skim milk

Heat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Combine all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, sugar, baking powder and salt (if used) in medium bowl. Mix well. Cut in Crisco with pastry blender (or 2 knives) to form coarse crumbs.

Add milk. Stir until dry ingredients are just moistened. Place on floured surface. Knead gently with fingertips 8 to 10 times. Pat or roll into 8 1/2-inch circle about 1/2-inch thick.

With 2 1/2-inch round biscuit cutter, cut 6 biscuits. Press dough scraps into ball and flatten again. Cut 2 biscuits. Place on ungreased baking sheet.

Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.

Makes 8 biscuits.

Hint: Cover dough with waxed paper. Press and flatten with 8- or 9-inch round cake pan until dough is desired thickness.
