1 3/4 c. unsifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. packed light brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. creamy peanut butter
1 egg
2 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract

1. In large mixer bowl, stir flour, soda and salt together. Add remaining ingredients except candy and mix at medium speed of electric mixer until well combined, scraping bowl occasionally. Chill dough 30 minutes.

2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Roll small amounts of dough into 1 inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 12 minutes or until light brown. Remove from oven and immediately press chocolate kiss into center of each. (The cookie cracks around the edge.) Makes 4 dozen.
