MERINGUE JAM SQUARES 
1 3/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. shortening
2 egg yolks, beaten
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. strawberry jam

Combine flour, salt and brown sugar. Cut in shortening until very fine. Add egg yolks and vanilla. Pat into ungreased pan (9 x 9 inch) and bake 15 minutes at 375 degrees. Cool slightly. Spread jam on top.

Beat egg whites until stiff; add 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and beat until very stiff. Add 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts. Brown in oven at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Cool slightly. Cut into squares while still warm. Makes 16-20 bars.
