MISSISSIPPI MUD CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. flour
1/3 c. cocoa
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. nuts (optional)
4 eggs
3 tsp. vanilla
1 bag sm. marshmallows

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time. Mix flour, cocoa and salt together. Add to creamed mixture. Add vanilla. Bake 35 minutes. Remove from oven and spread on marshmallows. Bake 5 or 6 minutes. Cool and frost.

CHOCOLATE FROSTING:

2 2/3 c. confectioners sugar
4 tbsp. cocoa
1/3 c. Crisco
1/3 tsp. salt
1 egg
4 or 5 tbsp. hot water

Beat until thick.
