OLD FASHION BAKED BEANS 
1 lb. Great Northern beans, dried
2 tsp. salt
3 c. ham, diced
2/3 c. brown sugar, packed
1 med. onion, diced

Soak beans overnight in water to cover generously. The following morning pour off the water, add fresh cold water, covering beans, again generously. Add remaining ingredients and heat slowly to a rolling boil. Spoon beans, ham, etc. into a large pot covering with liquid. Cover with tight lid and cook in a slow oven, 275 degrees for 6 to 8 hours. Add more liquid as needed. Do not add any liquid the last 45 minutes of cooking.
