DEEP DISH PIZZA | |
1 c. warm water 1 pkg. dry yeast 1 tbsp. sugar 2 tbsp. shortening 1 1/2 tsp. salt 3 c. all-purpose flour TOPPING: 2 mild Italian sausages Parmesan cheese Grated Mozzarella cheese (approximately 8 oz. per pizza) 1/2 c. tomato sauce per pizza Oregano OPTIONAL TOPPINGS: 1/2 lb. sliced fresh mushrooms Olives Onion Green pepper Seeded and chopped tomato Use 2 (15 x 10-inch) jelly roll pans or 2 pizza pans. Combine water, yeast, sugar, shortening and salt. Let stand for 5 minutes. Add 1 cup flour. Beat well. Add 2 more cups flour. This should be a stiff dough. Knead until smooth and shiny (10 minutes). Let rise in greased, covered bowl until double in bulk (2 1/2 hours). Divide in half; spread into pans. Saute sausages. Spread crust with tomato sauce, sprinkle with oregano and Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle drained sausage and vegetables of choice on pizza. Cover pizza with grated Parmesan and Mozzarella. Bake 25 minutes at 400 degrees. |
