EASY CHOCOLATE CHERRY TORTE 
1 devil's food cake mix
1/2 c. butter
7 c. 10X sugar
1/3 c. milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling

Prepare cake according to package directions for 9", 2 layer cake; set aside.

In medium mixing bowl, beat butter until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in half of the sugar, beating until smooth. Beat in milk and vanilla. Gradually beat in remaining powdered sugar. Beat in additional milk, if necessary to make frosting of spreading consistency.

To assemble, place 1 cake layer on cake plate. Using 3/4 cup of frosting, make a 1" wide border around top of layer. Use 2 tablespoons frosting to make a 2" circle in center of layer. Spread half of the pie filling between circle and border. Place second layer on top. Repeat border, circle and pie filling on top of cake. Frost sides with remaining frosting. Keep refrigerated.

VARIATIONS:

CHERRY-CREAM TORTE: Use yellow or white cake mix and cherry pie filling.

BLUEBERRY-CREAM TORTE: Use yellow or white cake mix and blueberry pie filling.
