SUGAR COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening (butter)
2 eggs, beaten
3 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
Tinted frosting, Fondant frosting, raisins, colored sugar (optional)

Cream sugar and shortening until light and fluffy; beat in eggs and vanilla. Sift in flour, baking powder and salt; blend well. Pat in to a ball; wrap in foil, chill until firm. Divide into fourths; work with 1/4th at a time, refrigerate the remainder. Roll out to desired thickness for various sizes and shape of cookies. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake in preheated 375 degree oven until edges are golden, about 5-7 minutes. Cool slightly before removing to wire rack.

Decorate as desired. May be cut with cutters or knife. Picture cutouts may be pasted on with Fondant frosting. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
