2 1/2 cakes yeast 1/2 c. sugar 1 c. warm milk 2 eggs, slightly beaten 2 sticks butter, melted 1/2 tsp. salt 5 c. flour 1/2 c. walnuts 1/2 c. raisins 1/2 c. dates 1/2 c. mixed fruit 1/4 c. rum 3 c. powdered sugar Lemon juice Rum (optional) Marinate walnuts, raisins, dates and mixed fruit in the rum. In large bowl crumble yeast, add sugar, milk, eggs, salt, butter and flour. Knead well, cover with towel and let rise one hour. Knead well. Divide into 3 loaves, roll by hand into long rope, twist into shape you want, place on cookie sheet lined with brown paper. Let rise for 45 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Toward the last 20 minutes brush often with butter. Ice with the powdered sugar, lemon and rum. Drizzle actually. |
