D.'S DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
2 c. sifted cake flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/2 c. sugar or firmly packed light brown sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
3 (3 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted & cooled
1 c. milk
1/2 tsp. red food coloring

Sift first 3 ingredients together; set aside. Cream butter and extract together until softened. Add sugar gradually, creaming thoroughly after each addition. Add eggs in thirds beating well after each addition. Blend in cooled chocolate. Alternately add dry ingredients in fourths and milk in thirds to creamed mixture beating only until smooth after each addition. Blend in food coloring with final few strokes.
