3 c. flour 1 tsp. nutmeg 1 c. butter 3/4 c. sugar 1 unbeaten egg 2 tsp. vanilla 2 tsp. rum flavoring Sift flour and nutmeg. Cream butter and gradually add sugar. Cream well. Blend in egg and flavorings. Add mixture gradually to dry ingredients. Shape pieces of dough on lightly floured surface into long rolls 1/2 inch in diameter. Cut in 3-inch lengths; bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until golden. Cool. Spread frosting on tops and sides. Mark frosting with tines of fork to resemble bark. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Yield: 3 dozen. FROSTING: 3 tbsp. butter 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. rum flavoring 1 c. powdered sugar Evaporated milk Cream all ingredients EXCEPT milk and beat well. Evaporated milk may be added, if necessary, to thin frosting. |
