IRISH BROWN BREAD
3 3/4 c. whole wheat flour
1 1/2 pkgs. granulated yeast
1/2 c. warm water
2 tbsp. molasses
1/2 c. HOT water
1 tsp. salt
1 c. (approx.) hot water (additional)

Place flour in large mixing bowl and put in warm oven. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Blend molasses with 1/2 cup HOT water. Combine flour, yeast, molasses and salt. Add enough additional (1 cup or more) HOT water to make a wet, sticky dough. Amount of water determined by the flour. Put directly into buttered 9"x5"x3" bread tin and allow to rise to 1/3 original size.

Bake in 450 degree oven for 50 minutes or until crust is nicely browned and loaf sounds hollow by thumping lightly. Remove from pan and leave on rack in turned off oven for 20 minutes.
