2 oz. chocolate, cut up
1 c. sifted flour
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. boiling water
1/4 c. sour milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, unbeaten

Put chocolate in mixing bowl, add boiling water gradually. Stir until melted. Sift flour, sugar, salt and soda into chocolate mixture. Drop in shortening, milk and vanilla. Beat very well. Add egg and blend well. Bake in 8 x 8 inch greased tin at 350 degrees for about 40-45 minutes.
