GERMAN APPLE CAKE | |
5 apples (large) 5 tbsp. sugar 2 tsp. cinnamon 3 c. flour 2 1/3 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 4 eggs 1 c. oil 2 tsp. vanilla 1/3 c. orange juice 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder Peel and core apples. Cut into thin slices. Mix 5 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon; sprinkle over apples and toss. Set aside. In mixing bowl, place flour, sugar, salt, eggs, oil, vanilla and orange juice. Mix well using electric mixer on low speed for 1 minute, then for 3 minutes on medium speed. Add baking soda and baking powder. Mix 1 minute longer. Grease and flour tube pan and fill with alternately layers of batter and slice apples (3 layers of batter and 2 layers of apples; beginning and ending with batter). Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours or until done. Let cool and then drizzle with powder sugar icing. |
