POUND CAKE 
3 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. shortening
1 c. buttermilk
4 eggs
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract

Sift dry ingredients together and add shortening and buttermilk. Beat in a mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes. Add eggs and flavoring and beat 2 minutes more. Bake in a 10" tube pan for 1 hour and 15 minutes at 350 degrees. A topping of pineapple preserves spread over warm cake is delicious or may be served with frozen strawberries or peaches over the top.
