SAUCEPAN SPICE CAKE 
1 c. raisins
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. nutmeg
2 c. water
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Simmer raisins in 2 cups water for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and add shortening and stir until melted. Cool until just barely warm. Sift together dry ingredients and add nuts. Blend all of this into the raisin mixture in the saucepan. Pour into a greased and floured loaf pan (9"x5"x13"). Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.
