1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. white sugar
1 egg
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
Pinch of salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter, shortening, sugar, and egg. Add remaining ingredients. If you plan to roll cookies, refrigerate dough 1 hour. Otherwise roll 1 tablespoon dough in a ball and flatten with a glass bottom dipped in sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Recipe easily doubled.
