GRANDMA'S RICH SUGAR COOKIES 
1 c. butter
1 c. sugar + 1 tbsp.
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. flour

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Beat well. Add sifted ingredients; mix well. Wrap dough in wax paper. Chill several hours or overnight. Roll very thin (1/16 inch thick) on floured board. Cut into shapes. Place on greased cookie sheets and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 425 degrees for 5-7 minutes. If frosting, don't sprinkle with sugar.

ICING:

1 c. confectioners' sugar
1 tbsp. water
Dash vanilla
Food coloring

Mix ingredients together well. Add water to achieve desired consistency. The thinner the consistency the sooner the icing will dry.
