HOMEMADE BREAD
2 c. scalded milk
2 c. cold water
1 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. dry yeast
5 lb. flour, preferably Robin Hood
1/4 lb. butter
3/4 c. sugar
2 c. lukewarm water

Combine milk, butter, and scald. Combine cold water, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Add milk mixture and let set to cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in the 2 cups of lukewarm water. Add this to ingredients in large bowl. Stir in 1/2 of the flour, knead in remainder of the flour. Cover and let rise until double. Punch down. Let stand 30 minutes. Punch down again. Break off in balls and form into loaves or rolls. Place in greased pans. Bake at 375 degrees until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped lightly on top.
