CHOCOLATE OATMEAL CAKE 
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. uncooked rolled oats
1/2 c. soft butter
1 c. granulated sugar
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Pour hot water over oats, stir and let stand 20 minutes. Cream shortening and sugars until blended and fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs. Beat together. Blend in oat mixture. Sift together dry ingredients and add mix well. Pour into greased 9 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-55 minutes or until done.
