SHRIMP BOAT STEW 
6 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 lbs. peeled raw shrimp
Salt & pepper to taste

Melt butter in pan. Add flour and stir well. Allow this to begin to brown and add 3 cups water. Simmer for several minutes, adding more water if gravy is too thick. Add raw shrimp and allow to simmer for a few minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste. VARIATIONS: Add broccoli, asparagus pieces or other fresh vegetables after adding water. This can also be served over rice.

We grew up with this dish, usually served over grits or sometimes toast - sort of an original shrimp and grits recipe. I first had this dish prepared by an uncle who had family in the shrimping village of McClellanville, SC.
