BANNISTER BREAD 
5 1/2 to 6 1/2 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
3 tbsp. sugar
1 pkg. yeast
1 c. milk soured with 1 tbsp. vinegar
1 c. water
1/3 c. butter

Heat milk, water and butter until warm. In a large bowl, mix 2 cups flour, salt, soda, sugar, and yeast. Slowly add warm milk and beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Add 1 more cup flour, beat at high speed for 2 minutes. Stir in more flour until you have a soft dough.

Turn on a floured board and knead until smooth for 8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise for 1 hour. Punch down and let rise for 1 hour. Punch down on a floured board divided into 2 loaves. Put into 2 greased loaf pans. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes until done.
