OLD FASHIONED DATE NUT BREAD | |
1 cup dates, finely cut 1 tsp. baking soda 1 cup hot water 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans 1 cup brown sugar, packed 1 egg 2 tbsp. butter 2 cups all-purpose flour Preheat oven to 350°F. Finely cut the dates (or purchase finely chopped dates). Sprinkle baking soda over the dates evenly. Pour 1 cup hot water over dates and let stand until cool. Combine chopped nuts, brown sugar, egg, butter and flour; mix well. Fold in dates. Turn into a greased and floured loaf pan. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour. |
