1 1/2 c. butter
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
2 tsp. baking soda (level)
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
4-5 c. flour (dough will be thick but soft)

Mix well. Make into balls and dip tops in sugar. Bake at 325 degrees about 15 minutes. This is a soft cookie.
