SOUTHERN GAL BISCUITS 
2 c. flour, sifted
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg, unbeaten
2/3 c. milk

Sift flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cream of tartar into bowl. Add shortening to flour mixture and blend together until of cornmeal-like consistency. Pour milk into flour mixture slowly. Add the egg. Stir to a stiff dough. Knead 5 times. Roll to 1/2" thickness. Cut with 1 1/2" cutter. Bake on an aluminum cookie sheet for 10 to 15 minutes at 450 degrees.
